Teaching your student is a privilege, and I do not take that privilege lightly. As a public school teacher, it is my job to ensure that every one of my students learns every day.
Because of this, I use and enforce a simple set of rules to prevent behaviors that will inhibit other students from learning. I would like to share these rules with you, as well as their consequences, so that you understand my expectations and know what to expect in the event that your student breaks a rule.
My Expectations For All Students
1. BE PREPARED!
Bring your ELA binder, reading materials, homework and pencil/pen EVERYDAY!!
2. BE RESPONSIBLE!
Do your work and homework, follow Ms. Holmes' directions, clean up after yourself, be a self-directed learner, use Ms. Holmes' website as needed.
3. BE RESPECTFUL!
Listen to Ms. Holmes, listen to your classmates, wait your turn to talk, keep negative comments in your head, use kind words.
4. USE TECHNOLOGY APPROPRIATELY!
Keep phones put away, only go to school or teacher approved websites, take care of class Chrome Books.
5. Have a Growth Mindset
Strive for improvement, keep going when it is hard, learn from mistakes.
Choosing Not to Follow Class Expectations will Result In:
1st instance -- Reminder
2nd instance -- Removal from group/student conference
3rd instance---Parent Contact/Reflection Form
4th instance-CHOICES Referral
A Note on Talking
I totally understand the 7th grade desire to talk with friends. In my class, we have lots of opportunities to share ideas and work cooperatively. We even will TALK about what we are learning. I call this Talking for Learning. Any other kind of talking I call Social Talking. Save Social Talking for lunch and after school. Social Talking distracts everyone in the conversation--plus it is rude to your classmates and to me. I will teach students how to use talking for learning. I expect 7th grade students to use their self-control and only talk when we are "talking for learning".
