Interactive Binder
Students will use an interactive binder for ELA class. This means most everything we do will go into the binder--such as daily assignments, homework, notes, etc... I recommend a 1 inch or 1 1/2 inch binder. The purpose of this type of binder is to have everything in one place for daily review and studying for tests/quizzes. Any worksheets or handouts used will be put into the binder. I will keep a table of contents under each class site so that students and parents will know what is supposed to be in the binder. Students' binders should be:
* Labeled on the outside with student name and block number.
* Be in the order of the table of contents.
* Be NEAT and complete.
Students will always leave the binder in class, but will be able to use the hole-punched pocket folder to take work between school and home.
Work Quality
I expect all student work that is for a grade to be quality work. This means using complete sentences, correct punctuation and grammar, writing neatly, and following the directions for completing the work. Unreadable or obviously rushed work will not be accepted and will have to be redone by the student. This means the work will be late and will lose points. This is usually a result of a student trying to complete an assignment in class as quickly as he or she can to avoid homework. Any work can be typed, using these guidelines:
* 12 or 14 font
* Times New Roman font only
* Double space between lines.
I will always give very specific written directions for assignments and include a grading rubric. Parents should ask to see student work and compare it to the directions. Do not accept "I did it in school"-set the expectation that all assignments are to be brought home for a parent check. I will also post examples of quality work for all assignments to this website. Typed work should be printed out at home.

Late Work Policy
If a student is absence, they first should check this site to see what was missed. They will have 3 days to make up the work upon returning to class for full credit. It is the student's responsibility to ask me what work was missed. I teach 100 or so students a day and may not remember to give a student his or her missing work.
Work turned in late will be lowered a letter grade. I will use a zero as a place holder in the Parent Portal (Power Teacher Grade book) until work is turned in. If you see a zero for any assignment, that means the assignment has not been turned in by your child yet. I will remove the zero as soon as the work gets turned in.

Extra Credit
No extra credit will be offered or given under any circumstances. Extra points just to bolster grades will not improve student learning. If students focus on doing their assigned work and doing a quality job, there will be no need for extra credit.
